Congratulations to three of our Year 6 students; Harry, Nathaniel and Jesse who were chosen to be part of the School Sport SA State Cricket Team. Southern Valley Team winning overall.
The boys played their division 3 grand final against Lower South at Westminster College.
It was an amazing three-day carnival for the team going through as undefeated Division 3 Premiers.
Congratulations boys, you have all done the School and yourselves proud!
On Tuesday, 14 November, our Year 2 students joined with ten other South Australian Catholic Schools to participate in a 'Come and Try Da'. SACPSSA, in collaboration with ACHPER (SA), conduct a 'Come and Try Day' during PE Week focused on mass participation for Year 2 students in Catholic Primary Schools.
Students enjoy a variety of different sports and activities which will focus on movement, fun and the joy of learning through physical activity. During the day, the students rotated through four sessions exploring different sports led by sports professionals and Year 6 student leaders from other participating schools as part of the Student Leadership PD Programme. The students had the opportunity to try SANFL, Touch Football, Tennis SA, SACA, Football SA, and Rugby Union.
The day was a wonderful opportunity for the Year 2 students to discover and experiment with different sports they will participate in during SACPSSA Carnivals over the next few years. It was great to see the student’s enthusiasm and perseverance when trying new sports and displaying excellent sportsmanship.
The SACPSSA Come and Try day was a fantastic way to acknowledge and celebrate PE Week!
On Thursday, 2 November, 30 of our amazing students (Year 4 - Year 6) attended Bonython Hall to celebrate their graduation of Children’s University.
Children’s University is an innovative program run by the University of Adelaide that saw students engaged in exciting opportunities to extend their learning out of the classroom participating in activities within the community to build love of learning, participation and develop inquisitive students who enjoy learning.
Each student was required to complete a minimum of 30-hours of learning throughout the year and were excited to celebrate their achievements in a special ceremony where they were able to dress in gowns and hats and were presented certificates from Professor Rachel Gibson, in front of the Chancellor The Honourable Catherine Branson, the Education Minister Blair Boyer, School Leadership - Mr Craig Fosdike and Mr Rowan Thomas, Mrs Nicole Perry (School Coordinator), and most importantly, their families.
The children represented St Martin de Porres School with pride and we are all very proud of their achievements and dedication to learning.
Duck and Turtle Fitness joined the St Martin de Porres community for its first day and, wow, what a day. The children in attendance had such a big day with Nick Mezzino (The Duck) and our very own Mr (Matt) Segat (Y4 Teacher).
It was a full day outdoors in this great weather playing games, learning new skills, making new friends and interacting with one another!
Duck & Turtle Fitness will join us each term break to provide families an option in addition to OSHC where the children can enjoy games and team sports. All students (Reception - Year 6) can join. Bookings are made directly through Duck & Turtle Fitness.
Over the course of Term 3, Year 6 students have been focusing on Business and Economics as their HASS Strand. Students designed and created their own small businesses, negotiated investors to loan them their start up, then created their products to sell at Year 6 Market Day.
Together they raised a staggering $3856.00 for Catholic Charities Appeal. A huge congratulations and well done to all the Year 6 students, and a big thank you to the families of Year 6 students in supporting them with their project and to all other students and families for supporting them in their business venture to make this year's Market Day successful and fun for all.
Throughout Term 3, the Year 3 students were learning about Mary MacKillop in Religion. Mary MacKillop is well known for the service she provided to those in her community. To try to follow her model of 'providing a service', we gave up two of our lunch plays to provide free entertainment to our fellow peers. The Arcade was a way for our school community to come together and support each other. We learned that there is as much joy in giving as there is in receiving.
The building of the students' arcade games was done in our Design and Technology lessons, where we had to work with a partner or in small groups, to plan and design our game. When it came to finally building our games, we encountered many problems, which we worked through in our groups. Persistence and patience were key in this process.
We were all so proud of our final products and were able to identify the components that would need changing, should we build our games again.
We also thank the staff and students for coming into the "Arcade" during lunch time to visit us and play our games.
On Friday, 22 September all St Martin de Porres School students celebrated their Positive Education Day; a day centred around positive health and ‘Awe & Wonder’. We celebrated the day by visiting the new (local) Glenthorne National Park and were amazed at the opportunities present for the students to engage in play.
The adventure playground features three slides, a seesaw, spinner, fossil dig area and Kaura carvings and sculptures set across 7,000 square metres, making it one of the biggest nature play spaces in South Australia. There are also rope and log climbing elements, a pendulum swing, cubby building, a 25m long flying fox and a wide range of accessible equipment to ensure children of all abilities can enjoy the space.
Fun Dad. Wise Dad. Kind Dad. Strong Dad. Fair Dad. Sweet Dad. Sporty Day. Tradey Dad. Best Dad. Our St Martin de Porres Dads!
There was plenty of cheering for all orienteers at this years' SA Orienteering School Relay Championships held at Thorndon Park on Friday, 1 September.
Congratulations to our School Champions and Shield Winners, Tyson and Luke Morcom, winning the Primary Boys Relay.
Your preparation, drive, determination, resilience and hard work has paid off. What an achievement - well done boys!
La Festa Italiana - Mamma Mia, what an amazing Italian Day!
Today students were entertained by Michelle from @Spectacular Spettacolo an Italian/Australian comedy company for schools, based in Melbourne with the show ‘Vacanze Romane’.
